The Newcastle Medicals Badminton Club was established in 1997. It was set up as an intra-mural league by students in Medicine and Dentristry,
and only Newcastle University students were allowed to play.
In 2000 the club relocated from Newcastle
University's Claremont Sports Hall to the Westgate Centre for Sport and membership was opened to everyone.
For the first time the club entered into the Northumberland Badminton Association's Doubles League.
At the Centre for Sport the Medicals club was able to grow and now we have five doubles teams
competing in the NBA league: a ladies' team, two
men's teams and a mixed team.
Newcaslte Medicals Badminton Club was awarded the Badminton England Silver Clubmark to become a Premier Club signifying a safe, effective, child-friendly club with effective management in place.
